Support, softness, abundance, allowing yourself to be held.

Many of us are taught how to give long before we learn how to receive. We offer our time, energy, attention, and care without hesitation, yet accepting support can feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, or even undeserved.

Receiving sounds simple, but for many people, it's one of the hardest things to do.

So what happens when we stop believing we have to earn everything? What opens up when we allow ourselves to be supported by life, by others, and by ourselves?

For this installment of Interview with a Psychic, I sat down with Lex to talk about receiving, abundance, self-worth, and what it means to let things flow toward you instead of always chasing them.

Taylor: Why is receiving often harder for people than giving?

Lex: Perspective of the self. From a young age, these individuals may have been conditioned into giving rather than receiving as a protective mechanism. They can take this learned mechanism into adulthood and use it as a way to feel accepted in places where they may feel rejected. Not being able to receive is like blocking a river that wants to flow freely. The beautiful thing about these individuals is that, once they learn to receive and be content with what they have, they’ll be unstoppable. These individuals know how to flow with the Universe and ride the wave of life. They are able to float and drift with their manifestations to create the life they desire.

Taylor: How can someone tell if they’re genuinely independent or stuck in survival mode?

Lex: If they keep talking about survival mode! The more energy they give to it with their words, the more they reiterate their lack. These individuals say things like, “I can’t do that” or “I’m too broke for that.” Words have power, and these individuals can be speaking survival mode into existence. Stay away from phrases (and people) that reinforce these beliefs. Independent individuals are not rigid in their beliefs and are detached from outcomes.

Taylor: What helps someone become more open to abundance, support, or love without feeling like they have to earn it first?

Lex: Go within. Seek abundance, support and love from within first. Then, the outside world will follow. You do not need to earn your own love or support. It is already yours. You should love and support yourself the most. Start cultivating a content inner world. Imagine it if you need to! There is no need to overwork or over-produce. You're always exactly where you need to be. A small, daily practice of gratitude and gentle movement can help open the door to a greater appreciation of life. Daily routines are actually rituals of devotion to yourself and your dreams. And abundance can be more than just money. It can be an abundance of emotional wellbeing. It can be an abundance of time. It can be an abundance of health. You are abundance. You are support. You are love.
