Interview with a Psychic: Change

Transitions, shedding skins, and endings that are really beginnings.
Change has a funny way of making even the things we asked for feel uncomfortable. A new chapter can be exciting and disorienting at the same time, especially when stepping into it requires leaving behind routines, relationships, or versions of ourselves that once felt safe.
Sometimes growth asks us to shed before we can expand.
That can mean releasing something we’ve outgrown, accepting an ending we didn’t choose, or trusting that the space left behind won’t stay empty forever.
For this installment of Interview with a Psychic, I sat down with Lex to talk about change, letting go, and how endings can create the freedom we need to become who we’re meant to be.

Taylor: Why can change feel so uncomfortable even when we know we’re moving toward something better?
Lex: (5 of Pentacles, Reversed): Change (mental or physical) is powerful and it requires a new way of being. Even when the change is welcomed, a new routine can be difficult to apply. Our comforts can turn into stagnant crutches that keep us from progressing. When you become used to a certain lifestyle, change can feel like discomfort. Pain or discomfort is a great motivator of change—especially physical or locational change.
Taylor: How can someone tell when it’s truly time to let go of a relationship, identity, habit, or version of themselves they’ve outgrown?
Lex: (5 of Swords): When your desire to prove yourself, outweighs the disrespect you tolerate. If you tolerate bad habits or behaviors from yourself or others, there will come a time where tolerating will work against you.
Taylor: Endings can feel like loss in the moment. How can we begin to recognize when an ending is actually making space for a new beginning?
Lex: (5 of Cups, Reversed) Rejection is protection. Once there is an understanding that people or places exit your life in order for more to come in, ending feel freeing. Friendships, lovers, experience are all here to show you something about yourself or your personal boundaries. When the lesson or experience is completed, the energy is no longer needed in your life. It is not a loss; it is freedom. Freedom to be who you truly are without the constructs of people or old ways of being.
